HCDC EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

I Introduction

    Educational technology is a subject that equips aspiring teachers to be creative and take the initiatives of any available resource (technology) that can enhance classroom instruction/teaching. The end point is still effective teaching on the part of the teacher and learning on the part of students.

      Educational technology has been given meaning by different individuals and groups (e.g. Association of Educational Communication and Technology). 

II  Topics

1. Technology Education

• It is part of the Philippine Educational System that is emphasized by the fundamental law of the land, the Philippine Constitution. 
• It is considered one of the foundations of the Philippine Development plans.
• It is designed to prepare Filipino people to harness its material resource for economic development.
• This aspect seeks to develop technical knowledge, skills and desirable attitudes (appropriate values and work ethic) for the citizens in order to contribute to the technological nature and development of  the country.

2. Major Approaches to Education

• Formal Education - this is the most effective and systematic approach in developing human resource of any country. It is carefully structured and organized as reflected in the curricula and the levels from elementary to secondary and tertiary level.
• Nonformal Education - this is also organized instructional activity offered to develop specific skills, knowledge or attitudes of a certain group and usually conducted over a short period of time (e.g. adult literacy program, continuing education, family planning, etc.).
• Informal Education - this is where most of us learn through tri-media (print, radio,television), social interactions and in all aspect of human life.

3. Philosophy of Technology Education

•  equip every citizen with basic knowledge, skills and attitudes to be able to function effectively in the changing society.
• address the need for everyone to understand and apply the fundamental skills and processes performed in everyday living.
• appreciation of the role of technology, its contribution to the improvement of the quality of life with emphasis on the agriculture, industry and business.

4. Legal Basis of Technology Education

• 1935 Philippine Constitution states that " all schools shall aim to develop moral character, personal discipline, civic conscience, and vocational efficiency and teach duties of citizenship (Art. XIV, Section 5).
• 1973 Philippine Constitution states that, " all educational institutions shall aim to inculcate love of country, teach the duties of citizenship, and develop moral character, personal discipline, and scientific, technological and vocational efficiency (Article XIV, Section 17).
• 1986 Philippine Constitution states that " the State shall give priority to education, science and technology, arts, culture and sports to foster patriotism and nationalism, accelerate social progress, and promote total human liberation and development ( Article XIV, Section 17). 

5. Major Goals and objectives of Technology Education
     5.1. Development of basic technical skills, knowledge and attitudes. It seeks to teach 1.) the fundamental processes in industrial arts, agricultural arts, homemaking arts and other practical activities in the home and community, 2.) the basic knowledge that will broaden Filipino understanding of the application of arts and science in the common activities of life, and 3.) the formation of desirable attitudes, habits and values.
     5.2. Development of understanding and interest in the technological sector of society.This will introduce and present the various fields of technology and the world of work.
     5.3. Development of trained manpower. Specialized form of technology education aims to develop skilled workers. technicians, and technologists. It should match the manpower needs of the industrial, agricultural and business sectors of the society.
     5.4 Enhancement of creativity, innovation, productivity and entrepreneurial skills. It should enhance creativity, promote and encourage innovation, develop productivity and entrepreneurial skills.
     5.5. Development of new and appropriate technology. It should promote the development of new and appropriate technologies.
